Happy Birthday Ruby!

Oh, the gifts I would heap upon you if you were still here! You're missing out. I love you and miss you every minute.

(Ruby is my mother, in case you're wondering. She died two years ago. If you didn't know her, that's a shame. You would have loved her, too.)

That is the most touching photo. I cannot imagine how you have coped with the loss, but the love that your post presented makes me know that you will pass along the love from your mother to your child. I know your Mom is smiling down on you and your family.

I'm sorry for your loss, Karla. You are a very sweet daughter. Tawny is correct; you'll continue the cycle of love through your own child. Now, don't ever make me cry again or I'll show up at your house with a pair of silver cuffs. Hehe

I have to tell each and every one of you people what kind of person Ruby was. When I was growing up she knew that my family life..for lack of any better work "sucked". Ruby knew this. This woman had a way of making me feel like I was the most important person around when she spoke with me. Simply by setting down and asking me how I was doing…what was going on in my life…telling me that I looked good (even when I didn’t)…telling me that if I ever needed anything to just ask and she would do what she could… telling me that I WAS special. She was more of a mother to me then my own. Ruby was a very special person, and I am honored to have known her. Happy Happy Birthday Rubyness.

I never met her, but I'm patiently awaiting my chance. If she raised you, then she must have been ubercool!

You are pretty like your Mom, Karla.

You honor her with the way you hung her portrait in such a beautiful way.

I am so sorry you lost your beautiful, loving mom.

Karla--sending you hugs on what must be a bittersweet day. Not a day goes by that I don't miss my own mom. It was 8 years ago, but seems like yesterday.

The ache in your chest eventually dulls somewhat, but never completely leaves you.

I am sure she would have been so proud of Jake! Know that she is hovering.

I am truly grateful I was able to spend time with Ruby... She was a wonderful woman who was always smiling. Reading la boom's comments, she mentions so many things that I can say I love about you Karla. Your mom's influence on your amazing character is obvious everyday - with your laugh, smile, and so many other little things. Because of this, Jake will be able to know how great your mom was...Your mom would be so proud of you, and the great mother that you are.
Happy Birthday Ruby!
Love,V

Ruby was the most wonderful caring person in the world, and I love her deeply. She was my aunt and I miss having her here, but she gives me something to look forward to when it's my turn.
